Pixar Animator Andrew Gordon visits AC

Animation College was excited to be able to take students of the Diploma of Digital Media to attend a full day workshop with Pixar Animator/Director Andrew Gordon last week as part of the Auckland Semi-Permanent event.

Andrew's career spans some of the most memorable and entertaining animated films of the past two decades and his passion for animation and teaching is ever present as he delivers his master workshop.

Starting with humble beginnings and moving through his early career he spoke candadly about challenges in the craft of animation, the power of story and some of the techniques that craft on-screen magic.

The workshop was full of practical and applicable knowledge for our third year students, who left the workshop brimming with grins from ear-to-ear.

Andrew also popped in to the Animation College Auckland Campus to meet staff and check out some student work on his day off!

DDM students also attended the opening day of Semi-Permanent as Andrew gave an inspiring talk on the studio culture at Pixar and some of the really creative outlets the staff have outside of just completing their shots.

The experience was informative and thought-provoking and all who attended walked away with some interesting firsthand knowledge of one of the world's most successful animation studios.

Students and staff alike were very priviledged to attend, Andrew's experience and passion are something we can all learn from.

We look forward to attending Pixar's latest release 'Inside Out' as a college in Term 3 and catching Andrew's animation direction on Pixar's 'The Good Dinosaur' TV spots.
